- Abstract
The article focuses on several linguistic works for teaching Indo-European languages. For English-speaking students of Indo-European linguistics growing up in the generation immediately following World War II, the classic introduction to the discipline was Antoine Meillet which is written with the characteristic clarity of expression that pervades all of this author's works. Since 1970, there were six books advertising themselves as one volume introductions to Indo-European linguistics have appeared. One of the books is written by Oswald Szemerényi. It is an excellent work by an important scholar but despite a rich bibliography that takes into account the research of the 1980s, it remains especially in the shapes of its reconstructions, a product of the 1950s and 1960s.
