- Authors

- Abstract
This article looks into the possibility of translating proverbs used in an Arabic text into English through Peter Theroux's translation of Abdul Rahman Munif's "Taqaasiimu l-Layli wa n-Nahaar (Variations on Night and Day). The article starts with the definition of proverbs and discussion of their form and meaning. In translating proverbs, the translator is faced with the problem of maintaining the richness and the compactness of the text to achieve optimal translation. The task is not always possible, therefore it concludes the unfeasibility of faithfully translating proverbs.
