The article discusses research on diagnosis and treatment for haemophilic joint disease caused by internal bleeding inside joints. Topics include clotting factors, a condition called synovitis (inflammation of joint lining), radioisotope injections, a clinical diagnosis tool called the musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSKUS) system and research on the protein thrombin activatable fibrinolysis inhibitor (TAFI). The work of hemophilia researchers Annette von Drygalski and Narine Hakobyan is discussed.
