- Title
Biochemistry: Sirtuin on a high-fat diet.
- Authors
Bheda, Poonam; Wolberger, Cynthia
- Abstract
The article reports on a study which discovers that sirtuin SIRT6 actively removes a myristoyl fatty-acyl group from lysine residues to regulate the secretion of a cytokine protein released from cells during inflammation. It proves the association of sirtuins in a range of processes, such as transcription, metabolism, fat mobilization, neurodegeneration and ageing. It implies that SIRT6 regulates the secretion of inflammation-associated proteins and stabilizes genomes in weak deacetylase.
