- Abstract
The article offers information on the social impact of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournament in the U.S. The tournament takes place every March and April of the year, and the players share a common goal, which to make it to the finals. The World War II and the Civil Rights movement changed the color line rule of the tournament, resulting to the acceptance of African American players, and the 1966 Texas Western men's basketball team was the first to feature an all African-American lineup in the championship game. The influence of media on the tournament, the creation of a women's tournament and the ethical lapses in the tournament are also included.
