- Abstract
The article explores the history of masculinity and manhood among Baptists and men in the U.S. South with a focus on Georgia. Emphasis is given to topics such as the institutional roles of churches, associations, and conventions in developing masculine identity, the patriarchal authority and power of southern Baptist men, and ethical aspects of evangelicalism which include piety, hard work, and honor.
