- Abstract
This article discusses a letter written by Mr. Rottenberg regarding CPR techniques in dogs. The authors of the article appreciate Mr. Rottenberg's interest in improving patient outcomes following cardiopulmonary arrest (CPA). They discuss the recommendations made by Mr. Rottenberg, including hand placement during compressions and the use of high-impulse CPR. The authors suggest that further studies are needed to determine the optimal hand placement and the effectiveness of high-impulse CPR in different species and sizes of animals. They also address the suggestion of abdominal compression-only CPR in large-breed, round-chested dogs, emphasizing the need for additional research to assess the technique's safety and effectiveness. The authors conclude by stating that, until more data is available, it is best to follow the evidence-based recommendations in the RECOVER guidelines for CPR in dogs and cats.
