- Abstract
This article deals with the main methods used by central and local education institutions, to qualify foreign languages teachers. The main methods to qualify teachers during the period between the years 1945 and 1991 were: by individual studies, by participating in methodological groupings, by attending courses organized by the Ministry of Education on local and national basis, by being part of the unique, mandatory qualification system. Postgraduate qualification methods for university professors included: by being part of the scientific postgraduate system of training, which included the study of foreign languages, undergraduate and postgraduate exams and the presentation of a thesis on a certain subject as well, by gathering, preparing and presentation of scientific information to other colleagues of the chair of the faculty, by organizing scientific sessions or workshops to discuss papers and reports on specific topics, by discussing articles, papers and lectures before publishing them etc. On very rare occasions there were some short term and long term training courses abroad.
