- Abstract
The key challenge that today stands in front of the organizations is not deficiency of capital, increase of profits, liquidity, employee motivation, or any other issue we have faced in the recent decades, but the sustainability of businesses that have all the above and to manage it effectively. More specifically, the biggest challenge that modern organizations are increasingly meeting is the fact that from a variety of reasons (eg. excessive exploitation of natural resources, climate change, environmental pollution, lack of innovation, etc.), their business should not shut down. Hence as a valid challenge to the survival of the organization is a need to create dominant awareness that needs to overcome all the other needs and short-term goals along the way of long-term sustainability. Business sustainability is a top priority and management challenge, towards which all focus should be oriented. If they want to avoid many potential problems in business, organizations must be structured so as to be key drivers of innovation and sustainable development management. In this regard, it is necessary to identify opportunities and threats in the environment, in order to adequately respond to them through their strategic plans, if their goal is (and it certainly is) to survive, grow and develop. For example, if the operational result of an organization in all fields over the past five years is superior, is such result to be expected in the next five years? The answer to this question is complex and requires the identification of appropriate indicators that will focus the organization towards sustainable development.
