The First Day of Criminal Law: Forgetting Everything You Thought You Already Knew.
- Authors
Simmons, Kami Chavis
- Abstract
The author describes her approach to teaching criminal law on the first day of law school in the U.S. She cites that she uses an interactive exercise to engage students in a debate on the merits of criminal prosecution and punishment. She adds that students engaging in the debate are divided into two groups, namely, prosecutors and defense attorneys. She mentions that one exercise she uses is based on a case of physician-assisted suicide involving Australian Doctor Philip Nitschke.
