- Abstract
The meta-analysis examines the benefits of various lipid-lowering therapies for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. The results show that statins significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular events, cardiovascular mortality, and overall mortality. Other lipid-lowering substances such as ezetimibe, PCSK9 inhibitors, and fibrates also show a significant reduction in cardiovascular events but have no effect on mortality. The combination of statins with ezetimibe, PCSK9 inhibitors, or EPA ethyl ester further reduces the risk of cardiovascular events but has no effect on overall mortality. The study emphasizes the importance of statins as the basis for cholesterol reduction and points out that there is only limited evidence for other medication groups. It is recommended to follow the corresponding guidelines.
