- Abstract
The article examines several aspects of male and female delinquency in a comparative context using two surveys which were carried out carried out in Edmonton, Alberta and in Richmond, California. The nature and extent of self-reported delinquency are examined for males and females in the two studies. Using a theory which represents an integration of differential association and control theories, correlates of delinquency in the two cities are compared. The results of this study suggest that while some differences exists, the nature and extent of self-reported delinquency involvement are similar in the two cities studied. The findings from both samples, particularly with regard to sex ratios in delinquency are similar to those of studies which have been carried out in other locations. The study concludes that the nature, extent and causes of delinquency are similar, though not identical, in the two communities studied.
