- Abstract
The article presents a review of the legislative bills passed by the 92nd Congress, in particular areas that concern the biological society. On December 6, 1971, the House voted the suspension of the House Resolution (HR) 10420 or the Marine Mammal Protection Act, which provides a permit system for the killing of marine mammals including polar bears, whales, porpoises and seals. On November 24, 1971, the Senate passed HR 9727, which regulates the dumping of waste materials in the oceans, Great Lakes, and St. Lawrence river, as well as, creating a program of research on ocean dumping. President Richard Nixon signed the bill, HR 3304 - PL 92-219, which amends the Fishermen's Protections Act of 1967 for the enhancement of the effectiveness of international fishery conservation programs.
