- Abstract
An emerging technology is presented that leverages existing approaches of corporate memory based on document management. This technology deals with the growing and crucial needs of capitalization of the strategic and/or technical information in industrial, financial, or administrative environments. A brief summary of current methods for implementing knowledge management applications in organizations is presented, then a description of the needs for corporate memory in different domains is given. The rest of the paper focuses on SGML and XML as the most appropriated markup languages for corporate memory systems using a knowledgebased documents approach, and provides an overview of the associated system architecture as implemented in various projects of the SGML Technologies Group.
