- Abstract
The purpose of the study was to explore differences in personality traits between psychotherapy students and students of other sciences. This finding would confirm that specific personality traits and problems are important factors associated with the choice of study and future profession. 199 Slovenian students of both sexes were included in the study, 110 of them were psychotherapy students and 89 students from other fields (faculty of health, economics, law and technical sciences), aged from 18 to 35. Participants were asked to complete two personality questionnaires: PID-5 (Krueger, Derringer, Markon, Watson in Skodol, 2012) and VMO2 (Benedik, 2007), covering major personality dimensions and disorders. The results showed there were no significant differences between psychotherapy students and other students, neither in the "healthy" nor "pathological" direction. However, there are specific group differences regarding some personality traits that are consistent with the findings of German researchers (Burkhard, Böbel, Hagl, Richter, & Kazén, 2017), which make psychotherapy students more emotionally open, trusting and secure than other students.
