- Authors
Tam, Louise
- Abstract
An essay on the ways in which diagnostic processes contribute to the normalization of antiblack violence in Canada from 2012-2016. It analyzes a special investigations unit statement and report on the 2015 death of Somali refugee Abshir in Canadian immigration custody. It argues that increased mental health assessment and treatment of immigration detainees are paradoxical and worsens conditions of distress by contributing to the expansion of the detention and deportations systems.
