- Abstract
A literary criticism of the 2000 short story "Ho'oulu Lāhui" by Nalani Kneubuhl is presented. The relationships between the country and the individual in Hawaii is examined with regard to indigenous epistemologies of the body as portrayed in the story. Also explored are how return to indegenous concepts of the Kanaka Maoli body can free up identity and belonging from the U.S.' imposition of blood quantum.
