Results from studies of foam sizing are presented. Foaming characteristics of several size materials are described, including polyvinyl alcohol, carboxymethylcellulose, derivatized starches, acrylic polymers and polyesters. Influence of size formulation viscosity and concentration on foamability of sizes is demonstrated.Techniques for generation and application of foam sizes are presented. Economics of application of size using foams are also considered.
