- Abstract
Dervish lodges is one of the most important centers of daily religious life and sufism in Ottoman society. Each of these locations took form in accordance with the idea of sufism belonging to a certain tariqat and also served to the community in accordance with these thoughts. Guidance activities that occured here both orientated people to "well and good" and provided them to gather around a divine aim by shaping their world and the afterdeath viewpoint. Tariqat sheikhs namely postnishin had became in the center of these activities that has lots of branch. One of 19th century's sheikhs that served in the Urfa lodges is Abdulkadir Efendi who has ratification at the tariqat of Qadiri, Naqshbandi and Khalwati. In this article, which we have prepared in the light of archival sources, his life and his services in the lodges of Urfa have been presented. Born in Erbil and having taken his basic education there, Abdulkadir Efendi spent the last forty years of his ninety years' life in Urfa. First he became the sheikh of Sakibiye Lodge which is a dervish convent of Qadiri in Urfa, then he became the meshikhat and manager of Haci Gazi Lodge where the Khalwati ritual is professed. Abdulkadir Efendi, who performed this service until his death, identified the possession belonging to the foundation of the lodge and arranged pecuniary sources. In addition to these, he restarted the guidance services by giving importance to Quran education, oratory services and the revivify of the masjid belonging to the lodge. Shortly before his death, he rebuilt the lodge which was in ruin and made this structure survive until today. Abdülkadir Efendi is also important author, he wrote mystical views a large number of the book.
