- Abstract
The Vakf-ı Nükûd (money foundations) were established in the Ottoman Empire in the XV. century. But these foundations were legalised by Şeyhülislam Ebüssuud Efendi in the XVI. century. These foundations were founded in Cyprus in the XVIII. and XVIII. centuries but we have not seen any detailed researches about the positions of these foundations. In addition to, there are not any researches or knowledge about these foundation, in the early of XIX. century. According to the records of Kadi's Court in Nicosia, these foundations were founded in the early of XIX. century, too. These foundations were founded by one person or a group. These persons determined the conditions of working of Vaqf and they were registered in the records of Kadi's Court, by Kadi. The aim of this study is to reveal the money foundations (vakf-ı nükûd) which founded in the early of XIX. century, their legal statutes', the conditions of foundations, the goals of foundations and their methods of working. We will, also compare these foundations with the other money foundations that founded in the Ottoman Empire and evaluate our findings. We will use the records of Kadi's Court in Nicosia, in our study.
