- Abstract
This article discusses the potential of 18β-glycyrrhetinic acid (18β-Gly) in treating pulmonary inflammatory disorders. These disorders include asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, lung fibrosis, lung infection, and lung cancer. The article highlights the anti-inflammatory and anti-neoplastic effects of 18β-Gly, as demonstrated in various in vivo studies. However, the molecule has unfavorable physicochemical characteristics that limit its use as a conventional treatment. The application of nanotechnology to create nano-based carriers for 18β-Gly shows promise in improving its bioavailability and revolutionizing treatment for pulmonary inflammatory disorders.
