- Title
Why Discovery of PSA was not Granted a Nobel Prize?
- Authors
Özman, Oktay
- Abstract
The article discusses why the discovery of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) was not granted a Nobel Prize. Despite its significant impact on the clinical practice of prostate cancer, PSA was not recognized by the Nobel committee. The committee typically rewards advances in basic science rather than therapeutic applications. Additionally, the abundance of pioneers and the controversy surrounding the use of PSA as a screening tool may have contributed to its omission. The article suggests that PSA may have to wait for a better application before it is rewarded.
