- Abstract
This article discusses the challenges posed by increasing usage of information technology in health care. As health care has evolved over the past decade, there is an increasing amount of data exchange for quality assurance, guidelines development, outcomes research, billing, insurance eligibility, and hosts of other areas. While some of these tasks are accomplished electronically, much is still paper powered. However, all this is changing. The advent of the electronic age has heightened individual concerns about personal privacy, and in particular, of one's medical record.
