- Abstract
In this study, the effect of curve depth and stock thickness to the feeding rate while sawing curved pieces from stocks with band-saw machine and derivation of standard data and formula from the data obtained were examined. The data base of the study was formed from the curved stocks from Beech (Fagus Orientalis Lipsky) of chair, table, coffee table, etc. which are used at real manufacturing process of some small- and medium-scale furniture manufacturing firms in Ankara, especially in Siteler which is the largest furniture manufacturing centre in Turkey. The factors which influence the realisation of the operations in relation with stock, operator, machine, method of operation and work place ergonomics were put under control, and only one element of process of ''Sawing of curved pieces from the stocks '', which is called '' Cutting the form laid out on stock guiding curved line '' was considered. This operation only relates to the operator and called '' Main task''. A total of 195 observations were made under real manufacturing conditions for different thickness' and curve heights as 5 observations per stock from 39 stocks. A stop watch or electronic timer, CASIO-Module No 972, was used for measuring work with 1 / 1000 th of a second accuracy. First, arithmetic means of observations in sets of 5 were calculated and then values from these calculations were analysed with regression analysis by using SPSS computer program. Correlations among variables and regression equation were found and results were interpretted. According to the analysis, there is a negative relation near to absolute between curve depth and feeding rate. That is to say, so curve depth increases feeding rate decreases rapidly. Although there is also a negative relation between stock thickness and feeding rate interaction is fairly less.
