- Abstract
The article discusses an earthquake forecasting experiment using forward long-to-intermediate-term pattern informatics (PI) to forecast strong earthquakes in the Yunnan-Sichuan region in China. Topics covered include the value of forward forecasting compared to retrospective evaluation, an analysis of the performance of the PI model for forecasting experiments by applying the relative operating characteristic (ROC), and how relative intensity (RI) and PI algorithms outperform random guess.
