A History of Transformation.
- Authors
STONEMAN, PATSY
- Abstract
The author reflects on the changes in the climate of English literary studies, particularly studies on the works of English poet Charlotte Brontë. She examines the conflict between U.S. author Terence Hawkes and British professor John Dover Wilson on how William Shakespeare's "Hamlet" should be read. She also argues in favor of the idea that literary value is not inherent in the text but produced by the institutions of society, which makes every text available for transformation.
