- Authors
Rochelson, Meri-Jane
- Abstract
A literary criticism of works by Jewish-English author Israel Zangwill is presented, focusing on the 1895 novel "The Master" and the 1898 story "The Turkish Messiah," part of the "Dreamers of the Ghetto" collection. It examines themes of Judaism, sex, and domesticity. The author also analyzes Zangwill's exploration of the theme of mastery and notes that "The Turkish Messiah" concerns Sabbatai Zevi, a seventeenth century false messiah.
