- Abstract
The article discusses the use of segmentectomy as a treatment option for lung cancer, specifically focusing on central lesions located within the inner two-thirds of the lungs. Traditionally, lobectomy has been the standard treatment for early-stage lung cancer, but recent studies have shown that sublobar resections, such as segmentectomy, can be a viable alternative for fit patients with peripheral stage IA NSCLC <2 cm. The article presents a retrospective analysis of patients who underwent thoracoscopic segmentectomy and concludes that segmentectomy for central lesions does not negatively impact clinical oncological outcomes or postoperative pulmonary function. However, there are limitations to the study, and further research is needed to improve surgical precision and determine the optimal treatment approach for deeply located lesions.
