- Abstract
The article focuses on the pseudobranchial filaments found in species of Callanthias including australis, japonicus and platei. Topics discussed include pseudobranches being gill-like structures on the branchial arches of fish, the pseudobranchial artery of fish being connected to the Ophthalmic artery that transports blood to the eye, increased pseudobranchial filaments resulting in increased standard length in Callanthias and blood being oxygenated for the retina by the pseudobranch.
