- Abstract
This article discusses the importance of correctly diagnosing and managing psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES) in emergency settings. PNES are a common form of functional neurological disorder that can mimic generalised convulsive status epilepticus (GCSE). The article emphasizes that patients with PNES should not receive treatment for GCSE, as this can cause harm. Inappropriate interventions, such as intubation, can lead to worsened outcomes for patients with PNES. The article recommends sufficient training in recognizing the positive clinical features of PNES to avoid unnecessary interventions and improve patient outcomes.
