- Title
MALDEF and the Legal Investment in a Multi-Colored America.
- Authors
Romero II, Tom I.
- Abstract
The article reports that the Mexican American Legal Defense Fund (MALDEF) has claimed a non-White status for Mexican Americans in the U.S. It states that MALDEF has utilized a legal strategy that unmade whiteness for Mexican Americans and constructed a brown identity in the course of legal battles during the 1960s and 1970s. It is discussed that MALDEF also continued to push a litigation agenda to force courts to recognize the distinct racialization and color positioning of Mexican Americans.
