- Abstract
The hydrolytic degradation and the thermal behavior of the poly‐hydroxy (butyrate‐covalerate) reinforced with prickly pear seed fibers (PPS) are investigated in the seawater and distilled water. The thermal analysis of samples before and after degradation is performed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The results show that the presence of the PPS fiber in the PHBV matrix reduces the onset decomposition temperature and fasts hydrolytic degradation, especially in seawater. The morphology of the samples before and after hydrolytic degradation is performed with scanning electron microscope (SEM). PHBV/PPS biocomposite immersed in seawater showed cavities, which confirms degradation.
