- Abstract
In this article the author talks about contemporary art and writing, and the tendency of authors to write in the first-person singular point of view. Topics discussed include the use of first-person singular writing in contemporary art and criticism, and in literature; critic Craig Owens' views on the art of the 1970s; and Sherrie Levine's views on the death of the author as a feminist gesture. Also mentioned are the queer cultural production, the book "Sincerity and Authenticity" by Lionel Trilling, and the feature length video "My Best Thing" by Frances Stark.
