- Abstract
The present study examines the biopsy diagnosis of ANCA-associated vasculitides in the ENT tract. It is found that up to 80% of patients with granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) or eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) have a manifestation in the ENT tract. Various examinations are recommended to diagnose these manifestations, including inspection of the integument, endoscopy of the oral cavity and nasal cavity, otoscopy, and functional diagnostics. In patients with microscopic polyangiitis (MPA), there are usually no specific changes in the ENT tract, while in patients with EGPA, nasal polyps can be detected endoscopically. Biopsy diagnosis is usually not possible in EGPA in the ENT tract. Histopathological diagnosis plays an important role because in about half of the cases with initial manifestation in the ENT tract, anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) are not detectable. It is recommended to take biopsies from macroscopically conspicuous areas and have them examined by specialized reference centers.
