- Title
Radionuclides in Fracking Wastewater.
- Authors
Brown, Valerie J.
- Abstract
The article discusses the presence of radionucleotides in wastewater produced by gas extraction from Pennsylvania's Marcellus Shale via hydraulic fracturing (fracking). Topics include waste production and storage issues, such as the effect of salinity on radioactive levels in wastewater, the release to surface waters of treated fracking wastewater, which results in high levels of radioactivity in stream sediments, and the use of deep injection wells for storing fracking wastewater.
