- Abstract
This document presents the findings of a study on the outcomes of patients with acute kidney injury (AKI) who received kidney replacement therapy (KRT) in an intensive care unit (ICU). The study found that among all patients, the mortality rate was 42.3%, with 33% experiencing renal recovery and 7.4% starting chronic hemodialysis (HD). In the AKI group, the majority of patients received sustained low-efficiency dialysis (SLED), while a smaller percentage received continuous venovenous hemodiafiltration (cvvHDF) or intermittent hemodialysis (HD). The study concludes that their ICU's multidisciplinary approach, including critical care nephrology specialists, has resulted in a significant amount of experience with SLED and comparable outcomes to centers that primarily use continuous KRTs.
