- Abstract
The poets of the Anatolian literary field who grew up under the effects of Islamic culture and civilization placed particular importance on the Nasihatnâme genre (in verse advisory) among others in which they wrote, and they got this genre to exist until the Republic era with different artworks. In this study, Ali Salâhaddin Yiğitoğlu (b.1877-d.1939), still writing in the 20th century in Ottoman poetic understanding, is considered a significant representative because of his religious, Sufic, and wise poems alongside his written and translated pieces whose subjects are on good morals. Tehzîbü’ş-Şiyem, which is an artwork also on good morals, will be analyzed in the light of the poetic advisory genre. Before that, the reader will be informed briefly about his life and works, and then, Tehzîbü’ş-Şiyem will be examined with regard to form and content. It is seen that it is comprised of one thousand poems, including different forms of poetry in aruz prosody. These are matla (rhymed couplet), müfret (unrhymed couplet), kıta (quatrain), nazım, mesnevi (poems whose each couplet is rhymed among itself). Yiğitoğlu aimed to give the reader a thousand pieces of advice by touching upon subjects of good morals and wisdom in each of his poems, and so, his work became a sample of this genre that deserves attention.
