- Abstract
Thermochemical transformations of phenolformaldehyde fibers (PFF) obtained from novolac resin were investigated during high-temperature treatment in air and an inert medium. Thermal transformations of the polymer were characterized by thermogravimetry, IR spectroscopy, and chemical analysis. The principal features of the thermochemical transformations of PFF were found and included a region of extensive thermal decomposition accompanied by the formation of an intermediate thermally stable product. A carbonized product could be produced in 65-70% yield of the initial fiber mass.
