- Abstract
The great destruction experienced in the region after the 2023 Kahramanmaraş Earthquake in Türkiye has affected education as well as all aspects of life. After the earthquake, the need to continue education emerged and distance education came to the fore as an important solution. In this regard, the decision of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) for distance education in the 2022-2023 spring semester has caused reactions from many students and families. The importance of emergency distance education, which provides uninterrupted education, has once again emerged, but the development of the subject, not only seeing it as an emergency, evaluating the prejudices and mistakes in distance education, which is the critical element of the education system, and the factors necessary for successful applications in widespread online learning are taken into consideration. The study proposes to take concrete steps to overcome the prejudices and mistakes made in the past regarding distance education in the post-earthquake period and to re-evaluate the education system in line with student needs. In this way, it will be possible to ensure the sustainability of education during and after disasters and to increase the access of the society to education.
