- Abstract
The 'Smaragd' and 'Fastigiata', varieties of Thuja occidentalis L., treated with the Radi-Stim® powder and Radi- Stim® solution 2% were planted in two nutritive substrata. On the nutritive substratum 1, the Radi-Stim® solution 2% stimulant applied to the 'Smaragd' variety had a higher propagation success (%) than the Radi- Stim® powder stimulant. Therefore, to achieve better efficiency in 'Smaragd' variety cutting propagation in the above-mentioned nutritive substratum, the Radi-Stim® solution is recommended. On the nutritive substratum 2, the Radi-Stim® powder stimulant applied to the 'Fastigiata' variety proved to be superior as compared to the Radi-Stim® solution stimulant. Thus, to achieve better efficiency in 'Fastigiata' variety cutting propagation on the nutritive substratum 2, the Radi-Stim® powder is recommended. The 'Smaragd' variety cuttings, treated with Radi-Stim® powder and planted on the nutritive substratum 1, have achieved the greatest propagation success in number of roots per cutting and roots bolus diameter per cutting. Consequently, in that case the Radi-Stim® powder should be used. Both nutritive substrata proved to be suitable for the cutting propagation of the two botanical varieties. The 'propagation success' and the 'roots number per cutting traits' are the two traits which should be assessed in cutting propagation research; on the contrary, the 'roots bolus diameter trait' is not a good indicator neither for 'Smaragd' nor for 'Fastigiata' variety cutting propagation.
