- Abstract
The article discusses the use of visual images in order to enhance effective teaching and classroom environments, focusing on ways in which visual literacy impacts learning. Within a discussion of visual literacy, the author provides a lesson plan to teach literature using visual literacy skills. Topics include the strategy of mentally mapping a curriculum around visual images, and a classroom activity using an image of a tattoo to prompt a discussion about the social meaning associated with tattoos in different cultures and the book "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," by Stieg Larsson.
