- Abstract
Suicide is an important social phenomenon for humanity, becoming one of the first three causes of death among young people, due to the social demands and characteristics of adolescence. This research aims to describe the social representations of suicide in tenth grade students of an I.E in Sogamoso. The study is of a qualitative, descriptive type. 6 in-depth interviews are carried out. The analysis was performed through axial coding. It was found that the social representations of suicide in the adolescents of the institution are grouped around emotional disturbances, unstable or dysfunctional social relationships, situations in the family, reflecting depression and bullying as risk factors. The importance of considering the subjective assessment regarding depression and stressful situations and their relationship with suicide is evident.
