- Abstract
The objective of this study was to analyze factors associated with the inadequate consumption of fruits (F), vegetables (H) and FH of people who frequent popular restaurants in Belo Horizonte-MG. This is a cross-sectional analytical study, with quantitative and qualitative approaches, with 1641 individuals, adults and elderly of both sexes, in the Popular Restaurants of Belo Horizonte-Minas Gerais. The data collection included the consumption of F, H and FH, the socioeconomic situation, nutritional aspects related to the consumption of other food groups, physical activity, current nutritional status, factors that interfere with food choices, the desire to make changes in and the existence of difficulties to eat healthily. There was a high percentage of individuals with inadequate consumption of F (81.7%), H (96%) and FH (79.4%). Inadequate H consumption was associated with individuals who do not work, do not try to eat healthier and have inadequate water consumption. Inadequate FH consumption prevailed among those with inadequate water consumption and who ate a reduced amount of meals / day. It was concluded that the consumption of F and H in the sample is far below the recommendations and that the factors studied were associated in a different way regarding the inadequacy of the consumption of F, H and FH. The popular restaurant is an alternative for healthy eating, at an affordable cost, and is also a space for actions, articulated with other public policies, that encourage and promote health and food and nutritional security for all its regulars.
