The article presents a study which described the contrastive front unrounded vowel phonemes in the dialect spoken in Westray, Orkney. Orkney was ruled by the Picts and then by the Kingdom of Denmark until it became part of Scotland. The study provided an analysis of the front vowel configuration in Older Scots. The potential value of exploring under-document dialects of minority is stressed.
