- Abstract
The article offers information on the negative impact of disasters and calamities to aging population in the U.S. Because of the adverse impact of calamities to older adults, it is suggested that government should improve the needs of the aging population. Hurricane Katrina leave lasting effects, the physical and psychological damage and the destruction has illuminated a variety of weaknesses in the local state and federal disaster preparedness and recovery process. It is suggested that authorities should address the general health and social needs of the affected population, as well as the unique needs of diverse subgroups especially older adults.
