- Abstract
The gestational period is an important event and nutrition plays a key role throughout pregnancy. In this context, the ingestion of nutrients in sufficient quantities becomes necessary to ensure both maternal and fetal health. Thus, it is expected that they adopt eating behaviors considered healthy since the nutritional demand increases with pregnancy seeking to avoid undesirable outcomes. Thus, nursing plays an important role in the assessment of the nutritional status of pregnant women by providing guidance and encouraging healthy eating habits in this cycle. The present study is a literature review, whose searches for articles were conducted from February 2022 to September 2022. The objective of the study was to analyze eating behaviors during pregnancy. The results show that the eating habits of pregnant women are linked to the sociocultural and economic context in which they live, and also that the consumption of highly processed foods favors gestational weight gain. On the other hand, a balanced diet oriented by health professionals is important for the gestational outcome. Thus, nursing contributes to the adoption of a balanced diet throughout pregnancy and consequently reduces the complications that result from irregular nutrition during this period.
