The article offers information of the significance of the contemporary version of the Clean Water Act (CWA) of 1972 amendments to restore and maintain the chemical, physical, and biological integrity of water in the U.S. with reference to Federal Water Pollution Control Act of 1948. It analyzes the role of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Army Corps of Engineers state enforcement of water quality regulation in context to U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Rapanos v. U.S.
