- Authors

- Abstract
The article reports on the theories of behavioral change used for health promotion. History of the development of theories of behavioral change, reveals increasing recognition of the role of social and cultural variables in explaining the adoption of new behaviors. Components of individual behavior, such as attitudes, values, motives and intentions, have been the focus of a number of models of behavioral change, which have been drawn upon in health promotion programmes. A serious limitation in models of behavioral change used in health promotion is the use of a rather simplistic notion knowledge transmission.
