- Title
Why Teach?: Ethnic Minority College Students' Views on Teaching.
- Authors
Ramirez, A. Y.
- Abstract
The article presents a study on the views of ethnic minority students on teaching. It states that in one study conducted on ethnic minority students, those in high school felt disillusioned with teaching because of the lack of positive information coming from teachers and counselors while those in the college level proved to be knowledgeable in the teaching career. It mentions that university administrators voiced out their need to have an increase in the number of minority students enrolled in their teacher credential programs. Furthermore, it says that the U.S. and the state of California are in a vital path involving the number of ethnic minority teachers and if they choose not to look into this problem, many of America's youth may not be able to have an ethnic minority for a teacher.
