Shakespeare and the Jewellers.
- Authors
Roberts, David
- Abstract
The article examines English poet William Shakespeare's decision to wear an earring. A portrait of Shakespeare reportedly depicts him with recessed hairline, pursed lips, pool-dark eyes, and an earring, however it is unclear what a single earring meant in the 17th century. Also tackled are the views of several authors on Shakespeare's earrings including J. Hain Friswell, Shakespearian references to jewelry, and the trends in the jewelry sector in 17th century England.
